VM Gone After Upgrade

Howdy all, Anyone else experience this? I had a perfectly good VM (using KVM) that I used to run my media server (Plex). When i upgraded my host from 10.04 to 12.04, the VM was gone. FWIW, it's no big deal to recreate the VM, but I want to make sure it's really gone before I do. I have a 32GB ssd fo...

Re: Cannot Connect to Guest

this had still been bothering me so i decided to research it further. based on what i've read, i was always able to connect (VNC, putty, etc) to my physical server using hostname because it was running samba. apparently samba resolves hostnames for WINS. my VM and my other ubuntu box are sharing fil...

Re: NFS Permission

Ok, so NFS permissions pass thru from the server to the client. The client can then place additional permission restrictions on the shares but cannot open up the permissions more than the server allows. Hence, my server's permissions for the folders being shared were RWX-R X-R X, but even with the c...

Re: NFS Permission

When I created my NFS shares, the settings matched your screen. However, looking back at the settings now, the NFS version is set at 3 (or lower). See screenshots attached. I have changed it back to ver 4 and tried saving. It won't save that setting. I also shut down my VM (NFS client) and deleted a...

My Server is to HTKH, as Cake is to...

Recipe...that's the answer. And Ian is a generous chef. Now for the real reason for my post: What, if anything, do y'all use to keep your ISP and everyone else from snooping your torrenting activities? I've read good things about BT Guard, but also a lot of bad reviews if you don't use Vuze or uTorr...

Re: Cannot Connect to Guest

Ok, so this is now a solved issue for me, but one question still lingers... I probably had my VM's set up correctly in the first place. I couldn't connect to my guests with putty, VNC, or webmin by NAME. However, once I thought to try it using the IP ADDRESS, each service worked without a hitch. Any...

NFS Permission

So I know it's mentioned in the flexget tutorial that the deluge user needs write permissions in the movedone path folders. I'm sure that user also needs permissions in the 'incomplete' folder. I am running deluge in a VM and my movedone path lies inside a mounted NFS share. When I try to change the...

Re: Cannot Connect to Guest

Yes, SSH, Webmin, and VNC are all running perfectly on the host. I used VNC to access the guest's shell since I couldn't get thru in putty. Win7 sees the host and its samba shares just fine, too. I did not attempt to ping the guest from within putty on the host. Didn't really think of it. I did try ...

Re: Cannot Connect to Guest

I'm getting the same issue as expirobo was at original post. However, I can't seem to fix it. I am running 10.04 w/ KVM properly installed on host. I followed the Network Bridge tutorial exactly. Since I'm using DHCP reservations in my router to give host a consistent IP, I set up /etc/network/inter...

Re: Do you have a smartphone?

Android! HTC Evo3D...probably called something else in the UK. However, my better half works in a big corporate data center, and her whole team has iPhones. No, not company issued. But honestly, I question most of those guys' geek cred. I got mine when blackberry hit the iceberg, and I couldn't stom...
