End of an era!!

The time has come to decommission my server for several reasons: 1. Power usage. 2. Not really used to it's full potential. 3. I need the hardware for a W7/8 desktop build for myself. 1&2 come under the same category, if my server was used more then power usage wouldn't be as big an issue. 3 spe...

Re: The "introduce yourself" thread

Hello and welcome.

Ext4 is way faster than NTFS, which is getting a bit long in the tooth now.

Re: Raspberry Pi

The RPi is now available with 512MB of RAM, should be a lot better for XBMC, I'm now using OpenELEC overclocked to 840MHz as my XBMC distro of choice for the Pi.

Now all I need to do is raid the piggy bank :wtf:

Re: How to check HDD's for filesystem error's

Hi Ian.

Erm in a word no.

But I fixed by following this link. post 9.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1769477

Ignore this line

Code: Select all

sudo vi /etc/fastab
as it should read:

Code: Select all

sudo vi /etc/fstab
or what I did:

Code: Select all

sudo vim /etc/fstab
Worked like a charm.

Re: Help with Permissions

Just as a matter of interest I'm running 12.04LTS on my box and VNC seem's to working fine, although I do suspect if I connected a monitor to it I would be greeted with a desktop instead of a CLI. I can even access the server from my MacBook without having to install a VNC app, I simply enable "...

Re: UBUNTU 12.04LTS

Sorry mate I missed this one. I tried updating this way and it bo**ocks'ed everything up and I had to do a clean install, so I upgraded? to 12.04LTS. Not sure if 12.04LTS is an upgrade or not, it kind of reminds of the Vista incident that happened a few years ago, nasty very nasty. BTW you missed a ...

Re: Do I need a graphics card?

Hi and welcome to forum. I don't use a graphics card in my server and so far I know Ian doesn't, it really isn't necessary to have a graphics card in a headless server, as there is monitor is attached. However I am not sure if mythTV requires such a card, although when I had mythTV installed it neve...
