Re: Do I have enough memory?

My gut instinct says you will need more that 512. When I SSH into mine, my "landscape" shows me using ~1.5 gig after 2 days ( minimal usage, no transcoding..etc. ) if you do manage to run with 512, you should probably make sure the Boot disk has plenty of storage for Swap. I'm not saying i...

Re: Multiple Questions

One is remote in another state ( after I left college, my friend took his Server with him, but we still collaborate on it and keep it as a central Media place for us). It is handy to have a few things set up: RSA KEY authetication. He actually set it up that when...

Re: Is 3D TV here to stay?

LarryJB, As i have worked with the technology... I do still agree with you. While i was watching Avatar in 3D. i was wanting to focus stuff in the background and see what was REALLY being shown, but because the focus is forcing you to see what is immediately present, it was hard to look at the backg...

Some members in my house will be doing a lot of Ripping and Transferring of big files, I'd like for it not to tie up my Media server connectio...

Re: How do you rip your discs?

I'm no Audiophile .. or even Videophile. I've used Handbrake to convert to a more manageable file sizes. There are limits to how small you can make it, i've found that ~1 Gig files for movies are Very decent. Depends on what codec and size you rip it to, but if you plan on moving over to a Big Scree...

Re: Is 3D TV here to stay?

Ian, YES, 3D TV is WELL on it's way. I worked in Taiwan for 6 months on some of the technology for 3D Tvs, and it really is incredible. like the 3DS there is technology that allow you to view the screen in 3D without glasses. There are limitations but you can buy screens currently that do that ( or ...
