Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
I have come to the conclusion that when deciding on a media server, the streaming device needs to be the deciding factor. What works great for one device, doesn't work at all for another. I also think Ian is right about having a proper streamer. A blu-ray player or TV is not a proper device. If you ...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
I was looking at the Boxee Box today, and it appears to be pretty close to what I am looking for in the way of a streaming device. As best as I can tell it seems to have the ability to install "apps" so that you only see the ones you subscribe to and they seem to have a pretty good selecti...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
Ian, The guys that are coming to the party are more into linux and really don't know much about streaming technology. So I doubt there will be much input from them on streaming compatibility. Actually this idea of a party was so that I could get some help setting up my server. I have put it off and ...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
Thanks for the update Larry. Maybe your server build buddies can give you some tips on how to get your LG to play nicely with your server. Maybe it means, at least in the short-term, ripping your media to a format that the LG supports natively rather than trying to transcode it on the fly. Ian. Yea...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
Another Update: After further review, it seems that Serviio does not play nice with my BD570 when it comes to transcoding. Apparently there is a "bug" in the BD570 that prevents it from streaming transcoded content from Serviio. So even though Serviio can transcode MKV containers with MPEG...

Re: MakeMKV
I tried it out this weekend and discovered that my streamer will not play the file. It does everything it says it does but my LG BD570 will not play it. At some point I am going to need to get a new streaming device. But that is not in the near future. My next step will be to get transcoding working...

Re: Great guide
Ian, would you consider adding a guide for setting up Serviio Media server as well? This is an awesome server that works very well and does transcoding. It is the only one I have gotten to work with my LG blu-ray player. It also has built in profiiles for several other devices as well. Maybe a guest...

MakeMKV
Has anyone used this program? I was just now reading about it. It seems to be just what I am looking for. It says it will convert a DVD to MKV without compression. It is supposed to be free for DVDs but you have to buy it for blu-rays. ($50 I think)
Does anyone have experience with this program?

Re: Possible problem with network card
I think I have figured out the problem. I had routed the patch cable from the server to the router through an ethernet surge protector that is a part of the UPS battery backup I have. After I took that out of the loop the videos now seem to play smoothly. After reviewing the specs of the UPS, I disc...

Re: VNC image scrolls
Hi Larry, If you right-click on the TightVNC icon on the taskbar on your windows desktop and select "Full screen" from the menu do the scroll bars disappear? To switch out of Full Screen mode and return to Window mode press Ctrl-Esc on your keyboard to bring back your Windows Desktop task...
