Webmin weirdness with partition IDs...

Here is the continuation of my feedback on installing Ubuntu, following this guide... One thing that tripped me early on was setting up the partitions on the non-system, data drives. As I already mentioned, the system drive is an SSD. I did it "by the book" with LVM and had no problem what...

Re: About the FlexRAID pages in the Howto...

Thanks, but FlexRAID 2 seems to be OK here.

Actually most of that page is still valid, if you update the archive name and ignore the WebUI part everything works just fine...

And yes, I guessed you already knew :-)

Re: How to verify my drive is "spinning down"

Thanks for the tip ! I did have of of those "direct links" left over from before I assigned drive letters to the shares. I just deleted it and spun down the drives again, we'll see... EDIT: Drat, no dice... They all came back on in less than 5 minutes. All three DRUs, and the PPU, on which...

About the FlexRAID pages in the Howto...

Ian, Thanks to your work here I have finally achieved a functional system with the main pieces working (VNC/Samba/FlexRAID). There are still a lot of minor niggles left (like spindown) which I will address in separate posts. This one is about the two pages "How to install and configure FlexRAID...

Re: How to verify my drive is "spinning down"

I am actually seeing a similar problem now. If I manually spin down my data drives with hdparm -y they will stay that way for a little while (a couple of minutes at most) then come up again. I have nothing installed that's not on your list (a lot less, really). I remember that in the early stages of...

Re: Webmin issues

Glad to be of help. That's exactly what happened to me.
It may have been specific to that series of Webmin upgrades (there were several at once) : I did another upgrade later on, and was very careful to check the option before rebooting, but it had stayed put this time...

Re: Webmin issues

Normally Webmin will set itself up to run at boot. I've seen it "turn itself off" once, after applying updates (through the Web UI, not apt-get). It was still there but didn't start at boot time. One way to check it to run it manually, then access the Web UI : in the "Webmin" men...

Re: Status report -- and a question..

Hi fpp, apologies for not replying more fully previously but I was typing the reply on my mobile which was painful and so didn't type a full response! No sweat. I wouldn't have guessed, it was pretty lengthy for a mobile response :-) Many installs ago I used to have Webmin send me some admin...

Re: Status report -- and a question..

Thanks for the offer, but I actually have the 2.0-Preview11 archive tucked away somewhere. It's just that I don't intend to dive into that part without the support of the Wiki and forums :-)

Any advice about the mail-in-Webmin part ?...

Status report -- and a question..

Hi all, Just a note, as promised, to confirm that my Ubuntu 10.4 LTS server is up and running, thanks to havetheknowhow.com :-) A word of warning that may be useful to those who might try after me : I wasted *A HUGE LOT* of time trying to install the server using a USB stick (having stubbornly decid...
