Re: Raspberry Pi

@n2o2diver, only too happy to help. XBMC on the Pi: I run RaspbMC on an SD card, I would have provided a link but the website seems to be down, well at least for me. RaspbMC works really well once you have loaded the image on to a SD, boot up your Pi and let RaspbMC do it's thing, make sure you have...

Re: Raspberry Pi

I have had a chance to have a tinker with my Pi, I have installed Raspbmc RC2 http://www.raspbmc.com/ , which once finished it loads XBMC, that play's the bulk of my movies off my server. The menu hang's momentarily when selecting an item, but not really a problem, which may get fixed in future rele...

Re: What Do You Think of My Proposed Network Build?

Hello and welcome. That sounds like quite a setup :!: :!: I will do my best to answer your questions. 1.& 5. There is XBMC-Live that is the main that simply boot's into XBMC and thats all you get so you could replace XP with it, if all you want is to use the PC as a media streamer. 2. You need t...

Re: My latest project.

I think I am going to go with M0n0wall as it has all the features I need without all the extra stuff that is available in the more "Enterprise" targeted distros. M0n0wall is a very light solution as it installs on a 64MB CF card and by the looks of it a little easier to configure. Working ...

Re: My latest project.

Ah allsorts of fancy stuff load balancing for one, it is not just about the features, cost is an issue too, for a decent wireless N gigabit router you would be looking at least £100, my homebrew one would cost me about £30-40, along with satisfaction of building my own, a bit like building a server....

My latest project.

Apart from tinkering about with my Raspberry Pi, which I am most impressed with. I have decided to build my own router, as I am fed up with off the shelf router's not doing what they are supposed to do :!: :!: . Starting with an old Compaq Evo N410c to act as the actual router, booting from a Compac...

Re: Raspberry Pi

Installed my SD card with Debian installed, plugged everything and it booted up straight away and after I logged on and typed "startx" I was greeted by the desktop. Plenty of people state that the RPi is very slow and unusable, I found it to be acceptable given the specs of the device. I h...
