Re: Access denied from a W7 Machine

What specific page of the guide and specific step on that page are you trying? What is the error that you're getting?

Re: How to divert internal http traffic to Guest VM?

I'm sure that iptables can do what you want here, but I'm not quite sure I understand specifically what you are trying to do. And I don't guarantee that I could give you a rule that would work even if I knew. But if you aren't sure where to even start with this, Google iptables. Otherwise, can you p...

Re: KVM Question: How devices on network access virtual mach

I don't personally use KVM, but I know how to answer this question if you were using VirtualBox. I suspect that the solution in KVM will be similar to what it is in VirtualBox, but YMMV. So in VirtualBox, you need to enable Bridge Networking for the guest VM. This causes the rest of your LAN to view...

Re: Gnome, Packages have umet dependencies?

I don't use VNC on my server, so I never actually read the VNC section of the guide until seeing this thread. I noticed that you explained in extreme detail how to use vi (hit insert, :wq to save changes, etc). Very impressed! Most instructions would just say "edit this file" but not actua...

Re: novice

This question probably isn't going to get a good answer because it's way too broad and most of it can be solved by Googling. For example, you asked where to buy your parts. A Google search for "where to buy computer parts" lists Newegg, Amazon, Tiger Direct, and Best Buy on the first page....

ATTN Nerds: What nerd stuff do you read?

A bunch of people here would probably be interested in reading the same blogs and such as a bunch of other people here. So what is your regular nerd (Linux specifically, or just tech in general) reading material? For me: New York Times tech section Techmeme reddit.com/r/Linux reddit.com/r/LinuxAdmin...

Re: CPU Shutdown Sh

This is a few weeks old so maybe you've already solved this. But when your script runs 'sensors | grep Temp1' (in the part of the loop where Temp$i == Temp1), grep will grab any reference to Temp1. It's probably grabbing Temp1 from k10temp-pci-00c3 instead of from the desired f71889a-isa-0480. Try u...

> network 10.134.61.1 Routers start address This is the network address, not the router address. The network address you want is probably 10.134.61.0. > broadcast 10.134.61.255 WTF does this mean or do? Does the 255 have to be there or should it be the server address? The 255 has to be there. As for...

Lowering energy usage of the server

My electric bill last month was way higher than I would have liked, and I thought my server and my media center machine might have something to do with that. So I borrowed an energy meter from a friend and found that my server is using 82 watts of electric. I installed the package 'powertop' and it ...

Re: Problems adding a Hard Drive

I don't know anything about webmin, but if you want to use LVM with the new drive you would probably want to create a new physical volume. This page shows how to do that: http://www.thegeekstuff.com/2010/08/how-to-create-lvm/ If you don't really care about LVM then you just need to run "fdisk /...
