Re: What do you use as your streaming "client"
Nice one Larry! I can sit here all smug and say "told ya so". Glad you're happy with it. Hopefully you now appreciate the point I was trying to make in that other thread about using a proper streamer rather than a wannabe. It "just works", no faffing with DLNA or transcodi...

Re: What do you use as your streaming "client"
Got the Boxee Box on Tuesday. Yea! Man! what a difference having a "proper" streamer makes!!!!! I have been ripping my DVD's using MakeMKV and it is working very well! I can navigate easily through each movie and can select chapters. Plus the sound working well, Dolby D and no sync problem...

Re: Server Install Issue
The MB is probably 3+ yrs old funny how that doesn't seem like much but then Vista was cool...LOL I have installed ubuntu onto a computer with a 5+ yo motherboard and that same drive without issues. However, the bios did recognize it, and everything went smooth. It seems to me that the root of your...

Re: What do you use as your streaming "client"
Well, I pulled the string on a Boxee Box today. I ordered it from Amazon and it should be here sometime 1st of next week. I think I will wait for it to get here before I start ripping DVD's. I think my best choice for a ripping tool will be either DVDFab or maybe MakeMKV. I think I would like to rip...

Re: Pre build and setup planning
Hi Larry, Thanks for the reply! Yea, but my understanding of VNC (i've never used it before) is that it's used to log onto the server, and from there i can remotely control the server (run applications etc). I take it this is a horrible assumption then!!??haha Thanks Not a bad assumption, you are c...

Re: Pre build and setup planning
why not put the server in the same room as the router? That would allow you to connect the server to the router with a short cable. the server has no need for a keyboard or monitor, so it should not take up too much space. you then access it via putty and vnc from another computer. -Have a few appli...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
Actually it is only about as tall a a Coke can, and will fit into a rack. Also since the remote is RF, it can be hidden behind a door or even behind the TV.Also that funky shape would be a pain to fit in my AV rack.

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?
Hi Yes, it would be very nice to have dedicated rederers/streamers throughout the house. Unfortunately (or fortunately I suppose) I am trying to buy a house so the £600 for the 3 Boxee Box's has a better home at the minute. Money wins out I'm afraid. :problem: Were you thinking of a Boxee Box or Bo...
