Re: Tight VNC Problem
Hi Craig.
I would tend to agree with you, it seem's like a DNS issue.
Have look at this page:
[url]http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/ubuntu/c ... ress//[url]
It tells you how to set up DNS, if you haven't already!

Re: Tight VNC Problem
Hi Craig. Just a thought, have you rebooted your router since changing your server ip addy?, sometimes a router may allocate that particular ip to something else. In my experience it alway best to have a static ip for server as you always know where it is on a network. WHS is a total garbage compare...

Re: Networking
Dunk have you considered Powerline Adapters for your network?, they save a lot of cabling and are available in Gigabit Lan speeds. I use them quite a bit for various networking I do and I have nothing but praise for them. Example topology: Router down stairs linked to a Powerline adapter that is plu...

I had a really nice post all set up and wollop the forum loged me out when I submitted it         Anyhow. @DunkB Andy what was wrong with XCFE? I've never used it, is it really that much worse than Gnome? It's that is anything wrong with XCFE, it has m...

Re: UBUNTU 12.04LTS
I think there is a possibility that the dev's over at Ubuntu are trying to ditch VNC in favour of RDC on security grounds aimed at companies with servers in different locations so the techs can log in remotely to admin the servers, they are not particularly interested in us who want to store and str...

Re: UBUNTU 12.04LTS
Yeah I got a nice blue desktop a couple of weeks back when I was mucking around with the beta and some RDC stuff, but that was all no icons or menu's.

Re: UBUNTU 12.04LTS
I do not have a desktop on boot up, just the standard CLI login prompt.
Any ideas on how to get the Gnome desktop working on VNC, instead of yukky XCFE?
In the mean time I am gonna roll my sleeves up and have a look see what I can do.
