Re: Adding a drive problem

Hi Sean It sounds like to me that you are trying to create a partition in the swap area of your boot disk, ext2 is an old Linux format and is usually assigned for the swap file or virtual memory if you prefer. Are you sure you are trying to create the partition on the correct disk or is the disk alr...

Re: The "introduce yourself" thread

Hey Sean. All the tips and advice are in the guide Ian has made available on the main web site, without the guide and help from Ian I would probably have a Win based server. I would ignore the user guide you have downloaded as I guess it will more aimed at running an enterprise server rather than a ...

Re: The "introduce yourself" thread

Hi and welcome to the forum. One thing I have learned by installing PCI SATA cards is that they are not bootable for some reason, I have an old PCI IDE that is bootable-strange :wtf: . The PCI SATA/IDE card I have in my server has RAID, but I am not a fan of raid. You will probably need another stic...

Re: Basic Problems with MusicIP

Hi Dave.

Welcome to the forum.

It seems Ian hasn't been around for a while.

I know that I am not going to be any help to you with your issues, I just thought I would let you know that question has not been ignored.

Hopefully Ian will be along shortly to aid you.

Re: TwonkyMedia Server

Hi DunkB Thanks for the tip, I am trying PS3Mediaserver. not sure about it as yet. XBMC would be perfect for the job-but it needs the video drivers installing which from what I can gather don't seem to work with server kernal, unless anyone knows different. I have also tried installing Fuppes but wi...

XBMC-Live update

At long my XBMC-Live HTPC system is up and running. My server handles the HD content without batting an eyelid. And the playback via HDMI at 1080p is amazing. I am having a couple of issues. 1. My Netgear router seems to have difficulty with DHCP as every couple of day's so I need to issue a command...

Re: TwonkyMedia Server

Mmm it seem's I will have to pay for Twonky as it is counting the day's for my card details :!: :!: It kinda go's against the grain having to pay for Linux software, unless anyone knows of another solution for streaming movies to Xbox 360's from Ubuntu (24 day's left on the trial version), although ...

Re: Is the Cloud the end of the home media server?

My thoughts on this are if you lost internet connection you have no way of accessing your media. I do not like the idea of my media not been under my direct control, example my family photos are our's I do not want some unauthorised entertity accessing my photos. How long would it take to upload a 2...

Re: Brand New Media Server

If you do get a board without on board graphics you could always buy an old PCi graphics card off eBay so you can install Ubuntu server, then remove it once you are happy all went well. You've got me thinking about Sata 3, I presumed Sata 3 is backwards compatible with Sata 2, as Sata 2 is backwards...
