Re: A few questions
CDs->Exact Audio Copy to FLAC DVDs/Blu-Rays-> DVDFab (the free version) to ISO. You don't have to rip as ISO, you just have to rip leaving the menus intact if you want them in the final rip. ISOs are neater (less files) and so I rip them that way. Every rip is a direct 1:1 copy of the original. Noth...

Re: A few questions
Thanks. Since putting that page together the author of FlexRAID has launched a new site. Many of the google results still point to that old site but there is no corresponding page on the new site. I'll update my links once he has finished putting together his new site. For now you can see it here: h...

Re: A few questions
Hi, Thanks for your kind comments. When I was struggling to put my server together I realised there was not such a guide out there. Hence my site. To answer your questions (albeit badly!): 1). I’m using T+1 for FlexRAID 2). For a more comprehensive answer you might be better off with google but KVM ...

Re: Ripping question
Hi, DVDs & Blu-rays are ripped as ISOs. It all depends on what you're using as the client. My clients (EVA8000, EVA9150, NTV550) support a wide variety of formats so can play pretty much anything. If you rip the DVDs as ISOs then you can use tools to convert these rips (eg. to avi) without havin...

Re: CPU Temperature script
When you issue the "sensors" command it produces some output showing the current state of your machine (fan speed, voltages etc) including the temperatures of your CPU core(s). I then do a "grep" of the lines that have the word "Core x:" in them. From there I know where...

Re: admin/monitoring tools?
I generally use webmin only when setting the server up or when I need to do something "difficult" which I'm sure I could do via command line but it'd take me ages to work out what to type!
I'm not aware of a different tool you could use although I'm sure there are plenty out there.

Re: Virtual Machines
Hi, just came across your guide and I'm eager to try it myself. I had a quick question about your XP and Vista virtual machines. You said in the guide that anyone can connect to their copy of windows from any client in the house. How is this done? To be able to run virtual machines you need to inst...

Re: VNC Power consumption
Hi, No, using VNC does not up the wattage at all. I used to have it running all the time but now I'm more comfortable using the command line (and webmin) I rarely use it, except to fiddle with the MythTV settings. I used to use virtualbox but dropped it in favour of KVM (instructions on my site). It...

Re: TED & Flexget?
Good question. You're correct, TED and Flexget do very similar things. TED is much easier to set up and get working although Flexget is much more flexible. If you've got Flexget working fine then don't bother with TED.
