My opinion of flexRAID just dropped significantly. It expired and I was not planning on working on this today. I am still searching for instructions on how to upgrade. The link in the expiration message is little help.

Thanks for using FlexRAID 1.4 beta build 7.
This version has reached its end of life.

Please visit www.flexraid.com and upgrade to the lastest version.

Yeah, a tad annoying. 1.4b7 has been re-released so you can download it once more from here and it should work again until November.

I've actually upgraded FlexRAID to version 2.0 but have not yet written it all up. I'll do so when I get the chance but for now you should be fine with 1.4.

Ian.

I was rebuilding my flexRAID array yesterday and several hours into it the Windows machine went to sleep. That machine was running the flexRAID web server via Putty. Now I get to start over.

I have been thinking about your setup and how you do not have your backups as part of the flexRAID. I like that idea. Part of my backups are disk images that I want to be part of the flexRAID, but I probably don’t need to keep redundant copies of documents and such. Since I have to rebuild the flexRAID I think I am going to move everything around and take one of the drives out of the array.

Thanks again for your help. I really appreciate it.

Hi genghiskhen,

Am I right in thinking that you're using a windows machine to build and maintain the RAID Array for your Ubuntu machine? If so, why are you doing that? And are these two machines physically separate machines or is one a virtual machine inside the other?

I'm intrigued

I am using the web client on a Windows machine to build the array on my Ubuntu server. The Ubuntu server is another physical machine. The mistake I made was launching the flexRAID web server through Putty on the Windows machine. I later configured it to run at startup by following your guide. I still used the web client on the Windows machine to configure the array, but because the web server is running on the Ubuntu server it doesn't matter that Windows goes to sleep. I think that is the case. I created a parity drive last night and I think it completed. I still need to schedule email notification and syncs.
