Key Thumb

Hi all. I have a question. Is there anyway that a key thumb drive can be duplicated? I have a piece of software that uses a thumb drive as a key. My issue is that the thumb sticks precariously off the side of the laptop. I found at Egghead a thumb drive that is about 1/2 inch . This would be much better than having a 2 inch drive. Problem is that my computer does not recognize that the thumb drive is even in the computer. It does not show up anywhere. Is there a way to get my computer to see the drive and is there anyway to duplicate it onto the smaller drive ? I'm not trying to break any laws, just don't like the thumb drive sticking out of my computer.
