Remote access issues

Post by darkmarauder »

I've recently gone through the instructions on here (thank you). I've got VNC and PuTTy working.
My problem is that as soon as I request the server to reboot I obviously get kicked off of the session.
This said, I check to make sure the server has finished rebooting, but for either VNC or PuTTy I get the applicable 'connection refused' message, unless I shutdown the server and attempt to logon after it boots up.
Any ideas?

Hi,

I find that if I reboot via VNC it leaves me in a black hole and I have to power off the server by physically holding down the power button. Then power it back up again. If however I reboot by issuing "sudo reboot -h now" in a putty session it reboots just fine and I can remote on again. Now idea why it behaves like that tho

Is that what you're seeing?

Ian.

It is the "sudo reboot -h now" command that I am using.
Is there any possibility for me to run a file integrity check on the overall server?
