Hello all,

I am as my name says a newbie to Linux. I found this forum and decided to make a Linux media server. I have installed Ubuntu Server 14 as per the guide. When i get to the VNC stage, tightVNC displays a grey screen and nothing seems to work. Can anyone help? Please bear in mind that i am new to this and i am in need of simple answers.

Hi there and welcome to the forums.

I've just run through my guide using a new copy of 14.04 and it works as expected. Are you sure you edited the ".vnc/xstartup" statup script as per the guide?

I also am experiencing the grey screen. I edited the file as stated for the 14.04 version. I think the trouble is that I am using 15.10 version of ubuntu, do you have the editing for the vncserver file for this version?

till then, switching back to 14.04
