Converting server from Fedor to Ubuntu

Post by brekse »

I hope some of you enthusiasts can help me with thois problem.
Today I am running my home server with Amahi (www.amahi.com) and Fedora 14.
I do not want to use Amahi anymore, and this guide is exactly to my needs.
My worries, however, is: what about my data-partitions?
I have Fedora on one disk. I will replace this one with another physical disk, and install Ubuntu 12.04LTS
I have two 1gb disks with data. There is no encryption. No LVM. Just plain partition/folders. These folders have been shared by to users.
Can my new Ubuntu just "take over" the two disks, and then let me share them?
My worries is about access, do I have to set ownership for the new root, users etc? The users will be the same as before.

I found this thread http://forum.havetheknowhow.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=434 but it did not answer my questions completely.

Update:
I could mount them in fstab
Then I had to install webmin to get root access, then I could give access to the files to the users in the new system
