It's entirely up to you. My guide is not the way to do it, it's just one way.

If you install KVM then you can build and wipe OSes to your heart's content. That's what I do when I'm trying something out. I try it out on a VM and once I've got it working fine I just replicate the steps on my main OS.

You are absolutely right, but following your guide is (for me) a way to get faster and safer to my destination.
Since the method of doing it is not the main goal, I prefer the paved one . . .

As of VM, my machine is very old and does not support virtualization on the CPU level.
In time, it's the next frontier to explore. But not yet
