disk configuration

Hi.
I'm at the decision point for configuration of my hard drives. I have one small disk for the OS and 2-4 disks of 2TB each for media and backup.
At the old days, I knew that if the OS has failed, I could take the disk to the new computer and everything as there (either windows or linux).
My question is what happens if I configure my disks in one or two LVMs. if the OS/MB crashes, could I still be able to access the files in the individual diaks
without the original LVM?
