Ripping question

Post by Guest »

Hi,
I love the write up, I am chomping at the bit to go build one. I do have a few questions, you mention streaming your DVDs and blue ray disks, in what format are the disks, are they isos for the DVDs or avi, and in what format are the blue rays? So far that is the biggest question for me. I already have a media server using windows 7 and nero mediahome. I originally copied all my DVDs to the server using dvdfab, but mediahome reads each vob file separately, so then I started ripping them as an avi. I really do not want to re rip all my DVDs, so is there a better way?

Hi,

DVDs & Blu-rays are ripped as ISOs.

It all depends on what you're using as the client. My clients (EVA8000, EVA9150, NTV550) support a wide variety of formats so can play pretty much anything.

If you rip the DVDs as ISOs then you can use tools to convert these rips (eg. to avi) without having to re-rip from scratch.
