Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?

Speaking of streamers, My bluray player has all these "apps" like netflix and vudu. There are several of these that come on the player. I only actually use a few of them. They all seem to have the basics, like netflix and youtube, but what if the set of apps I want doesn't come on one play...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?

Ian, You must be a single guy  My wife thinks I'm crazy spending all this time on this. She is happy with the way things are now. So spending more money on this is going to be a pretty hard sell for me. Plus, I just spent buckets of money on the TV, bluray player( you know, the one that can s...

Re: Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?

I have been trying out some different media servers with pretty poor results so far. I am using a LG BD570 bluray player to stream video. I have a couple of movies ripped with handbrake into mp4 files, and I have one movie in a VIDEO_TS folder with several .vob/.ifo files. Here are my results so far...

Which Media Server (if any) is working for you?

I think I have most everything installed and working on my new server except for the Media streaming function. I am really struggling with what to do here. There are really 2 functions that require software here. 1) How to get content formatted and transferred from my CDs and DVDs to the server. 2) ...

Re: Have you been having trouble with the BBS?

I hope to post some pictures and comments afterwards. Right now, it is tentatively planned for June 18, but things can change with schedules and the like.

Re: How do you rip your discs?

Does the player(LG BD570 in my case) have to be able to "play" the IFO file which would be listed in the specs of the player?

Sorry for all the dumb questions, but I am trying to learn stuff here.

Thanks for putting up with me!

Re: How do you rip your discs?

Ian, You say you use DVDFab to rip your DVDs. I did the same thing, but am having trouble playing them back. Granted I have not installed a media server on my ubuntu box and in fact I have not gotten Samba working just yet. So I am doing this all from my windows 7 computer. I installed TVMOBili on m...

Re: Have you been having trouble with the BBS?

Also I am planning on having a "Help Larry build his server" party next month where I invite all me nerdy friends over and they can either help and/or learn about putting together a Ubuntu home server. I was sure hoping this site and forum would be an available source for my party. Now tha...

Have you been having trouble with the BBS?

For what seems like an eternity I have not been able to access the forum. I have started my server build and I have had lots of questions, that I am sure someone here can answer. But every time I try to navigate to the forum I get a picture of an alligator. Are you back to stay? Oh, please ,please s...

Copy protection?

I am a real newbie to all of this, so be gentle. There are several threads about DVD and BluRay ripping, but nowhere in them does anyone mention how to deal with copy protection. In my very limited experience with ripping DVDs every disk I have tried to rip was copy protected and did not work. Is th...
